Top Work-From-Home Side Hustles That Require Minimal Investment

Top Work-From-Home Side Hustles That Require Minimal Investment

Ah, the dream! Work-from-home side hustles in your PJs are what many want to turn into a main hustle. You don’t need a fancy office or overpriced lattes. This is not another “quit your job and get rich” pitch. This is a genuine path you can take by investing your time and being serious about it. When I say that you’ll invest your time, it is accurate. If you don’t invest much money, the thing you’ll need to invest for sure is your time.

1. Teach What You Already Know

Investment: Your existing knowledge, a headset for clear audio, and maybe a Zoom subscription (£12.99/month).

You can easily teach what you know online. You can create a YouTube channel for free and start sharing videos (until you monetize it) or use it as a marketing device to bring in students or create courses online like me. While having the infrastructure and the first course might take a while, you can begin January with a bang if you start now! I can help you with that with my new free course starting on October 17th.

Sharing what you already know on YouTube or 101 is one of the fastest ways of monetizing a side hustle. The only thing to remember here is to make sure you choose the one thing you can talk about and share effortlessly for a long time.

2. Virtual Assistant: Becoming Someone’s Right Hand (From Your Couch)

Investment: Time, internet, and possibly a subscription to project management tools.

Being a virtual assistant, aka personal assistant or PA, means helping businesses or busy professionals with everyday tasks like managing emails, scheduling meetings, or organizing data. You’re a digital lifesaver; all you need are organizational skills and good time management.

Many business owners don’t have the time to handle admin tasks but still want things to run smoothly—this is where you swoop in and save the day. So, who would you target here? CEOs of SMEs. Don’t aim too high at the beginning. Start small and get the ropes of the game.

Be mindful, though. PAs have a degree in many countries, so you’ll need to prove you know the ropes or can learn quickly.

3. Freelance Writing: Turning Your Words into Cash Flow

Investment: Internet connection, a computer, and (maybe) Grammarly.

For example, getting started as a freelance writer on Medium is practically free. You can also create a Substack newsletter and monetize it or self-publish books as I do. (Hint for self-publishing books: if you want more cash flow, steamy Romance is hot in that regard, not only in “steam.”)

Should you go faster by using AI? Well, yeah. But then you might end up with a highly boring text that no one will want to read. Please write what you want to share in your own words, double-check it with Grammarly, and use ChatGPT and other AI to give you ideas when you feel stuck.

4. Social Media Management and Marketing

Investment: Familiarity with social platforms and (maybe) scheduling tools like Metricool (around £18/month).

Many small businesses and entrepreneurs are desperate for a solid online presence but lack the time to manage it themselves. This might be for you if you have marketing knowledge and know how to plan and organize social media grids. (If not, you can always join my Smart Marketing course, which starts on October 17th.)

5. Print-on-Demand: Your Designs, Their Products, Zero Inventory

Investment: Your creative skills and some money to see the final product.

Do you doodle? Sketch? Card games like Tarot? Then print-on-demand might be your creative calling. With platforms like Printful and Teespring, you can upload your designs and slap them onto anything from t-shirts to mugs to tote bags. Or you can go further with tabletop games.

No need to keep stock or invest in printing equipment. When someone buys your product, the platform prints and ships it for you. The only thing recommended here is to double-check the final product before hitting the green button for sale!
