Is Earning Money Online Easy?

Do you know how often I’ve been asked, “Is earning money online easy?” Too many. And do you know how much time I’ve spent answering it? A lot! And now I’m at it again because I want to clarify things: earning money online can be easy or difficult. It depends on your current skills and willingness to go out of your comfort zone and learn something new. I’m pretty sure that you’re searching for a straight “yes” or “no” answer. But I’m afraid that would do a disservice to you. Let me explain.

Set Yourself Up for Success

You might want to earn money online by teaching guitar classes, but if you’re a beginner, it will be pretty hard. Perhaps you think you can earn money online quickly as that guy you follow on YouTube who only talks about Marvel movies. The only problem is that you can’t see all the hidden parts of the iceberg of preparation you need for that (it’s not “just talking about Marvel movies.”) Or maybe you’re just lost on what to monetize online that can be easy.

The key to success is to take some time to research the following before jumping into the internet void.

Your No.1 Skill

What’s your number one skill? I’m not talking about what you want to be good at in the future, but what you’re good at now. It’s great if you have a dream to monetize your guitar videos, but if you just started learning the guitar, that’s going to be hard.

Maybe your number one skill isn’t fancy. However, it doesn’t need to be fancy but something that solves a problem for someone else! All those blogs about low-calorie desert recipes out there? They solve the problem of wanting to eat something sweet that won’t make you fat! Maybe you know about taxes a lot. That’s not super hot, you might think. But it is if you need to understand how much you need to pay to the tax man when the tax season is up!

Do you follow me?

Your No. 1 skill might not be fancy, shiny, or a trend right now. But if it solves problems, you’re on the right path to earning money online easily.

It Requires a Very Little Learning Curve

So, let’s imagine that you need my online course on transforming a side hustle into a main hustle to start your online adventure or learn all about marketing (available at the end of next month). And that’s it. Great! This means that in a short period of time, you can have your online venture running!

Now, let’s imagine that what you want to do requires a full year of knowledge-learning investment. This means that it won’t be easy for you!

So, if you know all about the skill you want to monetize online but need a steep learning curve about the medium you want to serve it in, you have to rethink that venue and research if there’s anything else that can allow you to make this go faster—in other words, make life easier for you!

So, let’s imagine that your recipes are the best, and you want to share your cooking with the world. Let’s also imagine that your favorite medium is YouTube videos. But you’re not tech-savvy and have no idea about editing software or how best to show off the food. And, trying all this requires a long time you initially don’t have. This doesn’t mean that YouTube is a no-go for you, but while you might be training, you could choose another medium to make things happen!

Let’s imagine you take nice pictures and already have a Substack account where you follow other interesting accounts. The smart move would be to use Substack first because the learning curve is low!

Forget Your Heroes

Let’s imagine that you love Gabriell Bernstein and want to do exactly what she does. You want to coach people online and write books. And you believe that doing so will also bring you easy cash online because your number one skill is giving good advice to your friends.

Copying what other people do online in the same way doesn’t work. Just because Grabrielle seems to be successful with what she does doesn’t mean that copying what she’s doing will bring you any success. But why?

Be Natural, Be You

You need to choose something that feels like breathing to you and shows your personality. If you’re good at that skill and you do it your way, you don’t need to worry about coming across like anyone else. You’ll come out as natural and authentic, and things will flow easily for you!

However, if you copy someone else, the energy won’t be the same. You’ll need to always be on the lookout for what others are doing, and you’ll be always “reacting” instead of “creating” your own thing. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take a look at your competition to see what they’re up to. Instead, it means that while you might be checking them, you’re still doing your thing.

Don’t Fake It Until You Make It

Is earning money online easy when you’re faking it? Nope. If you’re pretending to live in the Bahamas and taking lots of pictures faking that, it’s going to be exhausting! I know I’m exaggerating things, but I want you to get this. If you have to “copy” anything in some way, you’re making your life harder. And when you put that energy out, you’ll get fed up with it soon. And you’ll stop the adventure!

So, start small, wherever you are in the process. Make things easy for you, and “easiness” will come your way.

Easy is Relative

So yes, earning money online is “easy” in relative terms. If you spend your sweet time choosing something that requires a low learning curve somewhere in the process and a relatively low time investment, you’re on the right track.

However, everything becomes “harder” if you choose something that requires a high learning curve and demands heavy hour investment.

Now think: what are you good at that solves a problem for someone? What medium is the fastest for you to show your expertise?
