My Spiritual Awakening: If You Don’t Move, The Universe Will
Many imagine their spiritual awakening as something fancy and magical. Yet, I learned that if you don’t move, the Universe will do it for you (and you won’t like it). The story of how I ended up full-time with dePepi is a slap in the face by the Universe! Yes, my spiritual awakening, which allowed for massive spiritual growth, is a huge slap on my face! I’m telling you: if you don’t act when you should, the Universe (or life, call it as you wish) will make sure to make your butt move.
Let me explain it to you.
My Spiritual Awakening
For those who love to be entertained with the Tarot, you know that a Tower moment is when everything collapses and gets destroyed. It’s painful, sudden, and devastating. I worked for two years in a very happy place until an American company bought it and made huge redundancies (which affected me and most of my department at the time).
I was a happy team leader with fantastic colleagues. The place was fresh, it allowed me to work remotely, and I had time to keep up with dePepi. For years, dePepi has been my side hustle. It has been with me during very dark times, like my divorce, and has been a place of solace when I felt alone.
Yet, I never really considered making it my main hustle because I got used to having it with me forever. Plus, the collection of doubts in my head told me that badass women who rule things online, like my by-then side hustle, have a very different approach. I have blue/turquoise colored hair and a very colorful fashion. My approach to marketing likes to experiment and be based on foundational psychologic Jungian traits. My courses will tell you how much you need to work to achieve your dream. The magic I talk about isn’t automatic.
Beware of Your Comfort Zone
That great, excellent job was a comfort zone for me. It had nothing to do with what I really wanted to do. Yet, the pay was fair, I could work remotely, I could visit my parents abroad (and work while at it), and I made lots of friends there. Why would you move? Why would you jump on your own to make your dreams come true if you have doubts about yourself?
If you don’t, the Universe will. A US company bought this UK company, and they restructured it, which translated into huge redundancies. At the time, we were all in disbelief. My team was devastated, and I was so busy taking care of my team that I didn’t realize what was really happening. That is until I had an aha moment: oh wait, I have two options, not one!
When the Universe Steps In
While all my colleagues at that job were confronted with the need to find a new job, the Universe gave me two different options: follow the team leader path or take a leap of faith.
This is the Universe asking me the question while giving me the Tower moment:
- Do like all the rest and find another job as a team leader…
- Or jump to that friggin’ side hustle of yours that you’ve been building up for years dreaming about being your own boss but never doing the leap! Heck, how many times do I have to send you signs about it? You should be doing this! See what you make me do now? Shaking things up to see if you finally get it! Jeezz… aren’t you slow!?
I have to admit that I felt silly when I realized this. I went back in time and saw how I could have made this leap easier and less dramatic years ago. Yet, I ignored it because of my various comfort zones over the years.
Comfort Zones are Traps
Comfort zones are traps that don’t allow you to have any spiritual growth or material advancement whatsoever. Even if the comfort zone isn’t that comfortable, you stay there because you envision disaster if you leave it. You imagine that alone, you cannot make it because, for some reason, you’re less than others. (If you have that voice in your head, know that we all do at some point in our lives and that you can get rid of it. Try this.)
My dream has always been simple: being my own boss and sharing all my knowledge with the world. Yet, instead of taking steps to do it, I’ve been half-assing it all this time. Instead of going for it in stages, I just kept it on the side, forever dreaming about it but not taking the final steps.
I was trapped into keeping my 9 to 5 because I was afraid of going full for the side hustle. What if it doesn’t work? What will people say? What if I’m too old for this already? What if my fashion style and the way my message comes across are too different? What if nobody gets it? What if… what if… what if…!
Guess What Happened!
I did try to search for another 9 to 5 “just in case” while I was still in my last month in that company (slashed by the US company). The funny thing was that once I realized my side hustle and that door opening for me, I couldn’t bring myself to put all my energy into trying to just find something as a team leader. I did things half-assed. It’s funny because that’s how I had been acting with my side hustle for years!
Then, I decided to give the side a full go, and a miracle happened. 15 days after my last day of work at the Comfort Zone company (back in November 2023), I found my first client.
Read that again.
I didn’t use the “usual” tactics to find someone. I used what I thought I should do and followed my gut and research skills. And voilà, the Universe delivered.
You Can do the Same
I’m not saying that you should stop working in the place that’s paying the bills. What I’m saying is that if you do have a side hustle, look at the signs of it. If it’s mature and you should be finding more clients or selling more digital goods, don’t wait until the Universe kicks you in the butt!
