Lego Women of Nasa (perfect!!)

First of all: belated Happy Holidays! I got a Lego Women of Nasa for Xmas (Yule) and I couldn’t be happier. I wanted to buy this set, but I didn’t due to having no time at all. Then, when I finally got some spare time and I visited the Lego Store, I found none. You can imagine my super long and sad face at that moment. Then, Santa came, and I got it. Thanks to my sweetheart, I could enjoy playing with Lego for a while, and now I have a set of badass women of Nasa staring back at me from the shelf.
The set includes Margaret Hamilton, Mae Jemison, Sally Ride, and Nancy G. Roman. Let’s take a closer look at this Lego set and all these badass women.

Margaret Hamilton is an American computer scientist. She was born in 1936, and she is a maths geek. She started developing weather predicting and air-defense software at MIT. Then, NASA contacted the MIT to develop a guidance and navigation system for its Apollo Moon-landing program. She was the leader of the team responsible for that task. Thanks to that team, and Hamilton, the Apollo 11 lunar lander had an amazing system that helped NASA’s Mission Control to understand what was happening and alert the astronauts.
Hamilton is the CEO of Hamilton TEchnologies. SHe is a pioneer in computer science. She received NASA’s Exceptional Space Act Award in 2003, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama in 2016.

Sally Ride was a Physicist, astronaut and entrepreneur. She was born in 1951. She completed a Ph.D. in physics at Stanford University. While at University, she saw a promotion about NASA recruiting students including women. So, she applied and was one of six women selected by NASA in 1978.
On June 18, 1983, she was aboard the space shuttle Challenger. She became America’s first woman in space. She also became a symbol of women’s abilities to break barriers. When she left NASA, she became a physics professor. She created the Sally Ride Science to inspire students in math and science.
She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom after she died in 2012.

Mae Jemison, M.D. is an astronaut, engineer, physician, and dancer. She was born in 1956, and was a prodigy! She started at Stanford University at the age of 16 and graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in Chemical Engineering and African Studies. Then, she got her Doctorate in medicine from Cornell University Medical College.
She joined NASA in 1987 and launched into space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. Jemison was the first woman of color in space. She founded an international science camp for 12-16-year-olds, started two techie companies, and received many awards and honors. (She’s fantastic.)

Nancy Grace Roman was born in 1925. She is an astronomer. She graduated from high school and started working at several observatories while earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Ph.D. in Astronomy. She had to fight a lot against the belief that women shouldn’t be scientists.
She discovered an unusual emission spectrum of the star AG Draconis. She also worked at the Naval Research Laboratory, and then she became the first Chief of Astronomy of the Nasa for its Office of Space Science. She was the first woman to hold an executive position at the agency.
She is the “Mother of the Hubble,” thanks to her work on planning the Hubble Space Telescope. She received the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal in 1969. Also, NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Technology Fellowship in Astrophysics and the asteroid 2516 Roman are named in her honor.
As you can see this is a perfect present for those who love Lego and who also enjoy technology. I would have liked this set when I was a kid. I’m just happy I could get one now. As I said above, they were all sold out in the local Lego Store.
Do you like Lego? Did you get any set this Christmas?
