What I’m Watching: Outlander

This past week I’ve been watching Outlander (Amazon). Although I’m not into romance, the time traveling aspect of the show seems enough to give it a try. I found the show on Amazon Prime, and so far it’s a jewe. Claire travels back in time in Scotland when she is traveling with her husband after WWII. When she touches ancient stones, she is thrown back to the 18th century in middle of the concoction of a war: English against Scotts. She ends up saved and prisoner among the Scottish.

Claire is a woman of the 20th century: a nurse that served in the War, a smart and independent woman. When she sees Jamie wounded, she cures him making her valuable. Although the Scotts think that she’s an English spy at the beginning, she ends up earning their trust after a long time.

In the show, you clearly see the clash between religion and science. Claire represents science and knowledge, while the priest in town is everything but a closed mind. There’s also a cool witch around who believes in magic, something Claire is fighting to belief in herself. Surely, she’s back in time around 200 years, but science also works miracles.

Jamie catches her eye from the beginning. But, she is longing and trying to go back in time where she belongs. However, things aren’t that easy.

For starters: those dresses might be a pain to wear! When she arrives at what will be her home with the Scotts, she has to change her 20th-century clothing (or what remains of it) for a dress of the time. You can see quite clearly how difficult is to end up dressed! I cannot imagine myself in Claire’s situation. I can only say that I would only get in one of those in the case of Cosplay.

Jamie fancies Claire. Claire fancies Jamie. But there’s something else to add it: there’s a price on his head since the English hate him, and she is an outlander. Both outsiders, both breaking some rules since Claire is older than Jamie.

History-wise this show is cool. Plot wise is also great. However, this show falls into more romance than anything else. So, if you’re up to watch history, the impressive body of Jamie and practice some Scottish accent, then this show is for you.

I must admit that it was challenging to follow at the beginning. The Scottish accent is attractive, and it sounds pretty handsome, but it’s hard to understand if you’re not used to it. Better watch while relaxing along with some Scotch. I haven’t seen much of it, but so far I arrived at a point where there are some sexy scenes. I cannot guarantee there will be more, but according to these gifs, there should be.

So, if you want to see something historical with a pinch of magic and (I suppose) tons of sexy time, this is for you. Don’t worry; this isn’t as bloody as the Vikings (or at least, until the point I’ve seen).
