Brighton Geeks & Bloggers: A Nice Start!

Brighton Geeks & Bloggers had a very nice start. Fascinating bloggers attended the first meeting, and we talked about blogging while we took nice warm coffee in Presuming Coffee House aka Presuming Ed. We had a whole room for us, and we enjoyed a relaxing and friendly evening in which we discovered about the world of performance, mushrooms, designs, manga, Japan and geeky topics.
Debbie (debbiebridge.com) introduced us to the world of performing arts and gave us a unique view of how to approach geeky subjects like Deadpool for blogging. She travelled around the world sharing her experiences on her travelling blog (bridgethetravelgap.com).
Chris (catmachine.com) explained to us about writing and getting inspirations from around us letting the magic flow through our fingers. He’s been writing since 2006. Sometimes once a day, and now he’s taking a slower path.
Mark started blogging time ago but then stopped writing. He’s been living in Japan and shared his experiences in the country, security and old computers. He’s an early adopter since he had the web from the 90s!

Ben (www.wild-e-eep.blogspot.com) introduced us to the world of mushrooms and photography. Even though it seems that mushrooms aren’t very popular in the UK, they are a big thing in countries like Spain, France, Italy and Canada. A fascinating world!
David gave us insights on manga, Japan and some Superhero movies like Deadpool. He opened the door to comic books. He doesn’t have a blog yet, but he collaborates in a Spanish podcast where he talks about manga and Superheroes like Spiderman.
Zuco (zuco.org) gave us insights from Japan, old computers like the Commodore 64 and the Amiga, geekery and made very interesting questions about blogging. He is also thinking in writing again on his blog.
The surprising thing about this meeting was to discover that almost all of us had a connection with Japan: we either lived there, were having an interview just the very next day, or were planning to blog in Japanese for a Japanese audience.
It was also fascinating to see how different bloggers approach the monetizing of the blog topic with different perspectives and giving entirely different answers to it: including bitcoins.

We talked about blog niches, social media, WordPress, Bloggers (and other options); and we also thought that it would be cool to meet for a blogathon!
And in all this was a great first meet up with interesting bloggers. I enjoyed the evening and had a wonderful coffee in a very geeky coffee shop. [If you happen to be in Brighton, consider paying a visit to Presuming Ed., it’s a great place to work, enjoy the geeky views and have a nice hot coffee.]
