Comics THORsday comes hot today! We’re going speed dating with Loki! Grab your issue #2 of Loki Agent of Asgard and let’s start having fun reading it! This issue is really important because it introduces new characters in the story and it gives us good clues for the future. One of the characters has been around for quite a while, Lorelei; but the other new character is fresh from the oven. Verity Willis is a small jewel that will play a huge role in this series. So, read carefully and take notice of all the details you can find within the artwork. Remember also the direction in which comics are read. One of the most important things in this issue is the meeting of Loki and Verity. You also find clues about the character of Loki thanks to their conversation. See, he knows all about Cosplay. So, here you have some more clues about his “geek” status. You will also notice how he dresses while being at home. The all-mother talks to him with the shape of a pink blob. He is dressed in black trousers and a simple green tee. Remind these small cues, because you’ll need them to decipher the next issues.

We also have a huge revelation: his shapeshifting powers are shown. He changes from woman to man in the blink of an eye. However, the female face will come up later on. From this issue on, we’ll realize that Loki is gender fluid. So, keep that in mind as well. He also states something really important that will resonate throughout the series: he is always himself. Whatever happens, he is always himself. [Important part to remember when reading the comics.]

And now, we get to meet Verity Willis. For the way she is drawn we have quite a bunch of information about her: she is a modern geek girl. If you think about it, many geek girls are inked and use a certain fashion style. Verity embodies one of the existing stereotypes of geek girls. She is a programmer, has fashionable glasses, she is inked and wears comfy clothing. And, she has a nasty superpower: she knows when people are lying to her. This is a bit of a metaphor.

As a geek girl myself, I’ve met some people who wanted to lie to me and take advantage of me, very much in the fashion we see with Verity in this second issue of Loki Agent of Asgard. I am not a programmer myself, but I am quite of a geek girl. Results are pretty similar: isolation. So, keep an eye on Verity Willis and how she is portrayed because she is one of the hooks for geek girls who might be reading the comics.

Also, keep an eye on the introduction of this issue. There are clues about what’s going to happen in the future.
